John Franklin Dandridge

TV makes me hungry

Instead of committing suicide, I lie

down thinking about it until reaching

an imaginary scene in which I’m so artistically

dead

in uncharted space when I can

                 sleep

no more than 11 hrs. at a time, so I sitcom

            back and forth between stations

until the laugh track

 skips and the commercials crawl

                        out of the TV

          and into my stomach.

lie instead

If you only knew the truth

about the truth,

you would lie instead.

Let it dangle

on the tip of your tongue,

till it tickles,

but then it stings.

You should lie instead.

There is graffiti

on your teeth.

Blowing kisses

to the witnesses,

You should lie instead.

You may not believe me,

but believe me,

your grandchildren will,

so you should lie instead.

Now we’re standing

here

with each other’s opinions

in our pockets.

We should lie instead.
